Useful Information
During the installation of Minotaur, you will be prompted to supply all required data to successfully install the product. You do not have to modify any configuration files after the installation. If, during the installation process, you select to do a complete installation, the service and the web components will be installed on the current server. You will be prompted to supply connection details to create your database, which can either be on the current server or a separate database server. You will also be prompted to configure your connection string to the database and then also to supply credentials under which your web application and monitoring service will run. If you select a custom installation, you can specify in you wish to install a combination of the monitoring service, the web application and the operational database. You will be prompted to supply details for each of these components which are relevant to your choice.
Licensing
Minotaur is licensed per BizTalk Group; to register a BizTalk Group you must first obtain a license key
to do so. To obtain a license key, email the following details to

a) SQL Server Name \ Instance Name
b) BizTalk Management database name
c) Raging Bull Tech web site user name or purchase order number if you have purchased a
license
Our registration team will send you a license key to register you BizTalk Group.
Note on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008
Very important: To ensure successful installation on these platforms, the installation must be done
using the local administrator account when User Account Control is enabled. There are three ways
to facilitate the installation using the local administrator account:
1) Log onto the server as the local administrator user and install the product as this user
2) While holding the left shift key down, right click on the Minotaur.msi program. Select the “Run
as different user” option. Type in the local administrator user credentials. This will install
the product as if logged in under the local administrator user.
3) Disable UAC (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709691(WS.10).aspx)
Note on “Internet Explorer Enhanced Security”
Once installed, the Minotaur user interface must run in the browser in the local intranet zone. The reason is that the user logging on to Minotaur’s credentials will only be passed if in this zone. If you experience problems accessing the Minotaur user interface after installation, like being prompted for user credentials, check that the server that hosts the Minotaur user interface is in the browser’s local intranet zone. Alternatively disable “Internet Explorer Enhanced Security”.
Getting Started
You need the following to install, configure and run Minotaur:
a) You need administrative rights on the server you are installing Minotaur on (must use local
administrator user account for Windows Vista, 7 & 2008), as well as the SQL server you are
installing the Minotaur operational database on (must have sysadmin privileges). The
installation program will create the Minotaur operational database for you.
b) You need to be part of the BizTalk Administrators Group to open the Minotaur User
Interface.
c) An Active Directory account, which is part of the administrators group on all servers to be
monitored. It is advisable to configure this before registering a BizTalk Group in Minotaur.
d) The above-mentioned Active Directory account must also be a member of the BizTalk
Administrators Group.
e) The above-mentioned Active Directory account must also be a member of either the
Administrators group on the server the Minotaur User Interface is being installed on AND a
member of the IIS_WPG Group.
f) You are now ready to install and configure Minotaur, continue on to the next section.
Installation
Launch “Minotaur.msi” to start the installation.
The welcome installation page.
Click “Next” to continue.
The license agreement page.
Review the Terms and Conditions of use carefully. If you agree, accept the terms and continue by
clicking “Next”.
If you do not agree with the Terms and Conditions of use, exit the installation.
The customer information page.
Complete your details and click “Next”
The destination folder page.
Normally the default location will suffice.
Complete this page and click “Next”.
The setup type page.
Complete– Select this option to install all Minotaur components on one server.
Custom – Select this option to install selective components on different servers.
The default of “Complete” includes all option pages of the installation. You will be presented with
the SQL Information page, the Connection String page and the Service Credentials page. The custom
option has a subset of these pages for each option in custom. The following steps will show how the
pages should be completed, regardless of the setup type.
Select your option and click “Next”.
The SQL information page (Database Server).
Complete the database details. This is where the installation
program will create the Minotaur operational database.
Click “Next”.
The connection string page.
Complete the connection string details. This details how Minotaur will connect to the operational
database.
Click “Next”.
The service credentials page.
Complete the service credentials page. The Minotaur monitoring engine and the Minotaur user
interface application pool will run under this account.
Click “Next”.
The ready to install page.
Click “Install” to start the installation.
The installation will now install your selected components. This may take some time, please be
patient.
Once the installation is complete, it will launch the Minotaur Help Documentation as well as the
Minotaur User Interface (if it was selected for installation).
The wizard completed page.
Click “Finish” to complete the installation.
Configuration
Open the Minotaur user interface by navigating to Start->Programs->Raging Bull Tech->Minotaur-
>Minotaur
The following page will appear:
SMTP Server: Mandatory – Enter your SMTP server name or IP address
SMTP Port: Optional – Only required if the port is not 25.
SMTP User Name: Optional – Only required if your SMTP server requires SSL login.
SMTP Password: Optional – Only required if your SMTP server requires SSL login.
SMTP Domain: Optional – Only required if your SMTP server requires SSL login.
Mail From Address: Mandatory – Typically the Minotaur administrator email address.
Mail From Display Name: Mandatory – The “From” name that will be displayed in all monitoring
emails.
Admin Email: Mandatory – The Minotaur administrator email address. This mail address will be used
when any Minotaur monitoring engine failures occur.
Click “Update” to continue.
The subscribers page will appear:
Click on “Edit” to capture subscriber email addresses against the various monitoring categories. All
categories will default to the first subscriber captured for easy of configuration.
Once the subscriber details have been completed to your satisfaction, click on “Register Group” on
the top menu.

SQL Instance: Mandatory – Capture the SQL instance name where you BizTalk Management
database resides.
Management Db: Mandatory – Capture the BizTalk Management database name. Note; if your SQL
server has been configured to be case sensitive, ensure that you capture the case correctly.
License Key: Mandatory – Obtain a license key file from us to register you BizTalk Group. See the
Licensing Section for details.
Apply templates & discovery: If checked, Minotaur will discover your BizTalk environment
automatically and pre-configure all parameters. Minor fine-tuning may be required afterwards.
Click “Upload License file” to upload the license file to the server.
The “Register Group” link should now be available.
Click “Register Group”. This process may take a couple of minutes to discover and configure your
environment. Once complete, Minotaur will automatically start monitoring your environment.
